MMR recently implemented a new system to acknowledge any exceptional efforts by members of the team with the Marist Team Member of the Month award.
At a recent staff planning day, the face of the Chanel Community Centre (CCC), Khin Thwe, was awarded as the winner for October.  Khin Thwe started working at CCC four years ago, looking after the front desk, library, cleaning and security.
Director of MMR, Fr. John Larsen, says that Khin Thwe received the award because of her remarkable generosity and availability for everyone who comes to the centre. “She is always so hospitable. Also, she is very committed to the library, seeking creative and ingenious ways to make more and better reading materials available on a shoe-string budget. She really is a gem in the Marist team.”
Nearly ten years ago, Khin Thwe left her home in Dwei, Burma and moved to Ranong on her own in search of work opportunities. She is now married and she, her husband and her son live at the CCC where her son attends the kindergarten classes. Khin Thwe also takes advantage of the adult classes at CCC to further her English speaking and computer skills.
Khin Thwe says she was very excited and surprised to win the award, but when asked why she thought she won, she said that she is very dedicated and committed to her work and often works extra hours to support the centre.
